The challenge: It's Groundhog day! Visit the bunnies on the farm, and learn how these furry animals contribute to the ecosystem. Janice will be available to answer questions at 12:00 and 3:00.
Happy Groundhog Day.  By now you probably know that Phil did not see his shadow, meaning an early spring.  That means we can all start thinking about planting our gardens!

If you do get to the Longview market today you can meet Barley and Hops before or after you shop, or just for a reason to get the family out in the sun.  When I was at the market I learned that rabbit poop is perfect for your garden, and unlike other manures that have to be aged, it can be used for instant garden love.  Not only does the rabbit manure have nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, it has trace elements.  I was going to add rock phosphate or greensand to my garden to get the trace elements, but this year I am going to try rabbit manure instead.  Read more here: http://riseandshinerabbitry.com/2012/03/31/the-benefits-and-uses-of-rabbit-manure/

I am doing the Longview locavore challenge for the month of February.  By participating, get to participate in the Longview workshops for free!  Read all about the challenge here and follow their blog here.  I enjoy getting my vegetables from a CSA  and trying new things, I have a home garden and run a local Elementary School garden, and buy most of the meat my family eats from local farmers, I just buy it in bulk to save money!

Eating seasonally and locally is great for my taste buds, helps us try different things, and I am keeping money in the community.
