Become a Locavore this February, and learn how supporting local agriculture is better for you, your community, and your planet. Be a part of the Longview Locavore Challenge!
What is a Locavore? A Locavore is someone who is committed to supporting local agriculture and businesses by only eating food grown or produced in their community or region. We’ll show you how to do it!
Join the Longview team in a month of local food appreciation, as we challenge ourselves daily to resist cheap, mass-produced food and instead to embrace the bounty of our region here in southeastern Pennsylvania. Connect with local farmers and producers and learn how you can make your food dollars count.
All you need to do is:
1) Sign up for the weekly “Locavore Challenge” emails- You can also access the challenge calendar
2) Click on the links provided in the email, beginning February 1st, to learn about the topics discussed each week and find out what your daily challenges will be; challenges could include cooking with a vegetable you’ve never tried before, taking a farm tour, or checking out a book on organic farming. Encourage your family and friends to get involved.
3) Challenge yourself! Complete a challenge and follow the directions given to send us proof of your participation. Completing one challenge lets you enter one ticket into the raffle for the week – complete as many challenges as you can per week to increase your chances of winning. Proof of participation can mean sending us an email or photo, or stopping into the market in person. Prizes include market gift certificates, special market discounts, local foods gift baskets, and free workshops. Raffle winners will be drawn every Friday throughout the month of February and early March.
4) (Optional) Share your progress and knowledge with your friends and family! Twitter, blog, or post on facebook about the Challenge. If we re-blog or post your recipe, story, or suggestion in one of our emails, you get an extra raffle ticket for the week.
